this website displays this idea very well, because when one moves the curser over the different tabs, subheadings related to that tab are shown immediatly. It is very easy to navigate because the headings are unique and if you know exactly what you are looking for you can also get there very quickly. It is also clean and simple. This tactic is also employed very requently on college sites so that a perspective student can find what they need under a broad heading.

is a great example because when a person acesses the page, they have major categories but then they must click on it to then acess the actual content that falls under the headline. This type of site is usefull because it doesn’t distract the user by breaking up there view with a drop down menu. Personally i find that the drop down menus are more helpfull, because i can skip the next step i have to take in a tab stop navigation menu by going directly to the content. This type is useful when there isnt to much content and the creater just wants to seperate the site, but does not have enough content more more categories.

when directed to this site the first picture a person sees is 3 cars standing in a row, and if a person clicks on any of those 3 cars they are directed to new content specifically designated to that topic. then if for example you choose to click on on Tauros then you can choose any of a number of options such as trucks when that is clicked, the options are shown in pictures and that leads you to a page entirely divoted to that model. this type of navigation is handy for the visual sites were it is less about word content then about getting a person to purchase something such as clothing or cars, because people are very likely to see what they want and be appealed with what it looks like rather then reading a lot of recearch.

A good web site design by today’s standards

A good web site should be something that is pleasing to the look at. But also a site that does not bog you down with useless information and then makes it hard for you to find the content you are looking for. A good web site is one that makes good use of the navigation bars. It’s important to be able to find that easily and not waste your own time. I think a great example of a web site that just began appearing on my radar recently is http://www.yelp.com/ . Yelp has grown in popularity and i think it could be going strong. First off the thing i like about the layout of this site, is that right off the bat it will choose the area you are near , for example San fransisco and that weeds out a lot of unnessesary content. Its also very easy to use the navigation menu to search for another area; because you can search for the name of the resturant or shop and it will tell you were they are in the area, as well as include photos and reviews by regular people. A good web page in todays fast paced world, is a site that is easy to acess and use and that doesnt waste its space. Yelp has lot of interesting categories including(but not limited to) “user reviews near you”, and “popular events near you”, by doing this rather then filling it with ads, people who come to this site want reviews and interesting options, the white spave and design may seem cluttered at first, but 90% of the thinks lead to something that offers to personalise and improve you experience on the site.

Another web site i think it is important to look at when we are looking at the design of a web page is http://www.lonelyplanet.com/ it has some amazing and very appealing photos which draw people into the site, but also present a great picture of traveling.It is nice because the web page has a slide of pictures that are continually changing and so while a person is browsing the site, they can see great photos.

My favorite part of the web site is the travel map, just by dragging your mouse over it the names of different countries very quickly it takes you to the travel information for that country. It’s easy to find and actually fun to use.

In terms of the color of the site, it is definently more colorfull then Hulu, but it keeps your attention and has easy to understand tabs.

Hello World,

I find http://www.hulu.com/ to be an appealing and easy to acess web page. I use Hulu because rather then going to five different web pages you can go straight to hulu and get all the content you want. Once a person is on the site, there is a sliding bar that shows you all the new content that has been added to the site. Personally i think sites such as Hulu it is very important to just be able to find the videos easily.

Hulu does a great job of separating the site into categories, you want TV: you click on that, and it brings you to all the TV Content on Hulu. The site is very clean and the drop down menus, get even more specific then just TV and Movies. It gets even more specific with tabs for movie trailers and such.

Even the color i really like, its simple and grey, but it is clean and precise and the Hulu logo is a not to invasive shade of green. Along with each clip or tv episode there is a photo, which gives you an idea of what the content might be. When I put this all together my favorite part of this site is the main page because it makes it quick and easy to find the episode and everything is all in one place. Because it is a video hosting page, its important to make the videos easy to find.
